Riverside, CA February 10, 2016: On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Riverside’s mayor, “Rusty Bailey” read to more than ONE HUNDRED 2nd graders of Emerson Elementary School. The “Read With The Mayor” program is the result of a new partnership between The City of Riverside Mayor’s Office and the Natlie A. Cole-Reagins Education and Cancer Research Foundation of Riverside. Natlie A. Cole-Reagins attended Emerson Elementary School as a child and later returned to the school as a teacher for 13 years. Natlie died in 2007 of Sino Nasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma.

The “Read With The Mayor” program was a field trip for the 2nd graders. Students walked with teachers and foundation trustees to the Eastside library on Chicago Avenues where they were extended an opportunity to receive a library card, hear a story read by Mayor “Rusty Bailey”, and receive a BRAND NEW BOOK donated by the Natlie A. Cole-Reagins Education and Cancer Research Foundation. “Reading is a fundamental skill that was incredibly important to Natlie personally and as teacher. The Foundation is honored to work with The Mayor’s Office and Mayor Bailey to support this wonderful opportunity for the students of Emerson”, said Foundation Trustee and Riverside Unified School District teacher, Bonnie Potts. Mayor Bailey was engaging and a natural with the students. “Perhaps we can sponsor this event on a monthly basis!” that Mayor proclaimed at the end of the event when Emerson student were receiving their free books.

Mayor Bailey will announce the progress of the program as a featured speaker at the Foundation’s annual gala, April 23, 2016 at the Riverside Convention Center. “Monte Carlo Royale” is the theme of the event this year. Additional information regarding the Natlie Foundation can be found at
